CYGNET - The village will see a new long-term water source next week when the Northwestern Water and Sewer District completes a new 12-inch trunk main for the village's use.
The construction finishes a $1 million project by the district of approximately 7,000 lineal feet of an extension from the district's main on Jerry City Road. This connection of water treated by the City of Bowling Green at its King Road water plant will replace the village wells and local plant owned and operated by the district.
All homes in the village will be connected to the new supply.
Improved water quality, improved pressure and long-term capacity are several of the advantages of this tie-in cited by Bill Barber, the district engineer.
District crews will be in the village flushing the new waterline Monday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for operational purposes.
There may be discoloration in the water while the flushing occurs, and the district recommends that residents avoid doing laundry while this flushing is being performed. It should occur over several days. During flushing, the water may become white or milky in color. This is due to air in the water and will clear up after a few minutes.
Residents also will notice increased water pressure in the lines inside their homes during the flushing, which may create clogs in their sinks. Removal and cleaning of aerators may be necessary,
The project was funded by a $237,000 Ohio Public Works Commission grant and a $748,000 Ohio Water Development Authority loan, which will be repaid from water revenues.
"Those along the route on Solether Road benefit as well," Barber said, noting that their firefighter rating will improve their fire risk insurance.
Those with questions should call the district's operations department at (419) 354-9090 ext. 170.
