On August 1 Gabriel Baranski acquired the Homeworks Decorating Center in downtown Bowling Green. Baranski had been a Homeworks employee for 15 years when the previous owner retired.
"It kind of made sense that I would purchase it," she explains.
Baranski talked it over with another long-term Homeworks employee Kim Beach. Both women have degrees in interior design.
"We really want to expand the design end" of the Homeworks store. "I love interior design and getting to see all the new products that come out. Kim and I joke around that when we get a shipment of new fabric books or carpet styles it's like Christmas," she laughs. "We get excited to see them and show them to customers."
Baranski does not anticipate any major changes to the store, since "Some customers like changes and some don't. Eventually we might add some new product lines. But we're not going to do a giant change."
Baranski says Homeworks is "a really great place to work" because of her customers.
"Kim and I have been here for so many years our clientele are like friends. They come in, we know each other's families. I have a daughter so they ask questions about her too-it's really nice."
"Everyone's been very nice and asking how business was going. On the first day Homeworks was mine, several of the customers and contractors brought in flowers or desserts, so it was nice."
"Because we are such good friends with our clientele it's exciting to see a finished product," Baranski adds. "On the Facebook site we ask customers to post a picture or bring a picture in so we can see how it turns out."
They also encourage Facebook friends to send in questions about projects or products in the store.
"We love feedback and interaction with the customers, and they've been so nice." Homeworks plans to have a customer appreciation open house in September.
"We're shooting for September because August is usually our busiest month." Homeworks supplies the flooring materials for several apartment complexes in Bowling Green-so even if you haven't stopped into the store, you've probably seen their work.
Find Homeworks on Facebook or at 229 S Main St. Their phone number is 419-353-3551.
