New director named at Fort Meigs

PERRYSBURG – The Fort Meigs Association has announced the selection of Scott Lonsdale for the position of
acting director of Fort Meigs.
Lonsdale, a native of Detroit, MI, was appointed effective April 1.
Lonsdale’s duties include overseeing the daily operations, scheduling, budgeting, fundraising, community
outreach, event planning, preservation, maintenance, and historical interpretation of the site. He is
employed by the Fort Meigs Association, a private non-profit organization which manages the battlefield
on behalf of the Ohio Historical Society and the State of Ohio.
Prior to coming to Fort Meigs, Lonsdale was chief interpreter at the River Raisin Battlefield, a War of
1812 site located in Monroe, Mich. There, he oversaw the day-to-day operations of the site, planned and
supervised all special events, and worked closely with community groups for the improvement of the
battlefield. Along with a representative of the National Park Service, he supervised the transfer of the
battlefield from the county to the National Park Service.
Lonsdale holds a Bachelors of Science with a major in History from Eastern Michigan University.
In addition to his position at Fort Meigs, he csurrently serves on the board of the 1st Michigan Colonial
Fife and Drum Corps, a highly respected group of musical historians.
