NORTH BALTIMORE -  Village police officers and firefighters will begin paying more toward their pensions, effective July 2.
At Tuesday's council meeting, members approved an increase in police and fire pension employee contributions which will rise in increments over the next several years.
The increase will not cost the village, but means more money coming out of the pockets of about 40 village employees who work for the fire and police departments.
According to Mayor Mike Julien, the increases are state-mandated.
As of July 2, these employees will contribute 10 percent to their pensions. That will increase to 10.75 percent in July 2014; and 11.5 percent in July 2015.
Also at Tuesday's meeting, council went into executive session to discuss personnel matters and employee behavior.
A consultant was invited into the meeting to advise council on handing employee interviews.
