A Milton Center man has been charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated and reckless operation following a firey car-truck crash on Interstate 75 just south of Bowling Green this morning about 2:30.
The Bowling Green Ohio Highway Patrol Post reports that as of 5:44 this morning the right lane on the southbound side remained closed but was expected to reopen shortly.
The patrol reports that Derek W. Dingus, 32, of Milton Center, was driving a 2003 Mazda 6 southbound at a high rate of speed when he struck a 2006 Sterling straight line truck in the rear. The truck went off the right side of the road and overturned, trapping its driver, Russell E. Gartha, 62, of Flat Rock., Mich.
The Dingus vehicle also went off the right side of the road and caught fire.
Dingus and his passenger, Nicholas L. Boulis, 31, of Bowling Green, were trapped in the vehicle. A trooper that witnessed the crash was able to extinguish the fire and free all occupants from the vehicles.
Both Dingus and Boulis were taken to Wood County Hospital for treatment. Neither was wearing a seatbelt. Gartha, who was wearing a seatbelt, sustained minor injuries and refused treatment at the scene, the patrol reports.
