WEST MILLGROVE - A Toledo man was arrested early this morning following a nearly 30-minute, high-speed pursuit with authorities that ended west of the village.
The Ohio Highway Patrol reports that at 4 a.m. Perrysburg Township Police advised they had observed a suspect vehicle on southbound Interstate 75, which then exited onto Interstate 475 northbound. The vehicle had stopped in the middle of I-475, backed up, and gone southbound on I-75. Township police failed in their attempt to stop the vehicle, driven by Michael C. George, 29, Toledo.
Township police terminated the pursuit at the Ohio 582 exit because they lost sight of the suspect.
A trooper later observed George on southbound I-75 north of the Bowling Green exit. The trooper checked George's speed at 99 miles per hour and attempted to stop him.
George did not stop for the trooper's lights and sirens, and the pursuit continued.
The chase led southbound on I-75 at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour. George exited onto eastbound U.S. 6 and continued at a high rate of speed. A Wood County Sheriff's Deputy successfully deployed stop sticks on Route 6 at Ohio 199, deflating the left front tire of the vehicle and slowing George's speed to 45 to 50 miles per hour. George turned southbound onto Pemberville Road, then westbound onto Cygnet Road. He then went northbound on Emerson Road, and stopped south of Jerry City Road.
George then fled westbound on foot into a field. He was apprehended a short time later and taken into custody without further incident.
George was found to be intoxicated, with a blood alcohol level of 0.113. He was charged with felony fleeing and eluding, OVI, driving on a suspended license, providing false information, obstructing official business, speeding, and a seat belt violation. He was to be arraigned in Bowling Green Municipal Court this morning.
The chase covered 23 miles and lasted 28 minutes. No injuries were reported.
