Lucas County radio system worked well

Wood County agencies using the Lucas County radio communication system are saying they did not
experience problems during Sunday’s storms, which spawned two tornadoes and caused damage in the northern
and southern portions of the county.The 800-megahertz Lucas County system is utilized by Lake and Perrysburg
townships, Northwood, Rossford and Walbridge.Lake Township Police Chief Mark Hummer indicated that "we
had no, zero, issues with the Lucas County radio system," which he said cost $16 million."We had
absolutely seamless communication between ourselves and Perrysburg Township and Northwood, both on the fire
and police side."Rossford Police Chief Glenn Goss, Walbridge Police Chief Kenneth Frost, and Northwood
Police Chief Thomas Cairl echoed Hummer, stating that they also did not experience problems.Perrysburg
Township Police Chief Mark Hetrick said the Lucas County system operated "flawlessly," and that
there were no issues with radio traffic."We did have some phone issues, but not anything with the 800
system."Northwood Police Chief Thomas Cairl stated that they "never had a lick of a problem"
with the system.The Wood County "canopy" communication system, operated by the Sheriff’s Office,
and which is used by a number of village police and fire departments, reportedly experienced communications
problems due to high winds during the storm, according to Sheriff Mark Wasylyshyn.Wasylyshyn had previously
stated he had been told that the Lucas County system had also experienced problems in the storm.
