PERRYSBURG - He witnessed the raising of the American flag on Mt. Suribachi at Iwo Jima. And now city resident Bob Romaker will himself be a part of history.
Romaker, a Marine veteran of World War II, is among those featured in the upcoming National Geographic Channel documentary "Inside World War II."
The program will premier Friday at 7 p.m.
Romaker appears in the program via an interview he did at Way Public Library for the Veterans History Project, which the library conducts in partnership with the Library of Congress. The interviews have been taped at the library for a number of years by Local History Librarian Richard Baranowski.
During the documentary, Romaker describes his role in the invasion of Iwo Jima and watching the historic 1945 flag-raising, immortalized by Associated Press photographer Joe Rosenthal.
A DVD of the program will go on sale in June, and Way Library will be acquiring copies for its collection.
