Squirrel causes power outage
About 3,000 customers of Bowling Green’s electric system were without power for more than hour Sunday
morning after a squirrel got into the wrong place in the Gypsy Lane Road substation.
The outage was reported at 9:26 a.m. According to Bowling Green Police, a transformer at the substation
was charred in the incident, and some nearby residents heard a loud "boom."
Assistant Electric Superintendent John Stewart said this morning there wasn’t much left of the squirrel
and those remains weren’t found until after workers double-checked lines away from the substation for
other possible trouble.
At that point the substation was placed into service and the outage ended at approximately 10:30.
