Trafficking case follows OSP stop
A California man is facing human trafficking charges after Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers discovered two female human trafficking victims this week during a traffic stop in Lucas County.
Troopers also located 20 grams of marijuana and a loaded .45 caliber Springfield Arms handgun in the suspect's vehicle.
Troopers stopped a 2012 Nissan Versa, with California registration, for a speed violation eastbound on Interstate 80, near milepost 57, in Lucas County at 9:15 a.m. Troopers detected an odor of raw marijuana coming from the vehicle. A probable cause search revealed the marijuana and loaded handgun. Further investigation revealed paraphernalia associated with the sex trade. Upon contact with the young female passengers, a 21-year-old California woman and a 25-year-old Arizona woman, they admitted to being forced into prostitution.
The suspect, James D. Jackson, 21, of Sacramento, Calf., was incarcerated in the Lucas County Jail and charged with human trafficking, a first-degree felony; carrying a concealed weapon; a fourth-degree felony; and possession of criminal tools, a fifth-degree felony.
