Squirrel caused BG power outage
A squirrel that got into the wrong place at Bowling Green's West Poe Road electric substation is being blamed for a power outage that affected a large area west of Main Street and north of Wooster Street late Monday afternoon.
Director of Utilities Brian O'Connell said this morning crews responding to the outage found a dead squirrel and determined the location of the animal as the reason a circuit feeding the station tripped off line.
Power was restored to affected areas within an hour, he said.

Father's ashes stolen from home
LIME CITY - Thieves stole items, including a loved one's ashes, in a burglary reported Friday in Perrysburg Township.
According to Perrysburg Township Police, residents in the 27000 block of Oregon Road returned home from a camping trip to find that their home had been burglarized.
Stolen items included a box containing the ashes of one of the residents' fathers, two tool boxes, and a box containing movies and video games.

Truck fire on I-280
STONY RIDGE - No injuries were reported after a truck was fully engulfed in flames near Interstate 280 and the Ohio Turnpike east of the village Monday.
According to the Ohio Highway Patrol, at approximately 1:25 p.m. the driver of a 2006 Peterbilt tractor-trailer heard an engine noise and pulled over to the shoulder. The vehicle stopped on the acceleration ramp to I-280 southbound from the turnpike.
The driver opened the hood and found flames to be shooting out of the engine compartment. He attempted put out the fire with a fire extinguisher without success.
Lake Township Fire and Police responded to the scene. The tractor was completely engulfed by the time fire personnel arrived.
The tractor was a complete loss, and the incident is being ruled as an electrical fire.
The trailer, a refrigerator unit full of frozen chicken, also received damage.
