Be on alert for phone scam
The Wood County Sheriff's Office is warning area residents to beware of a recent telephone scam.
An alert sent out Thursday afternoon stated that the office has "received a report that a resident received repeated phone calls from an individual representing themselves as an employee of Microsoft. The individual advised that the caller was persistent in attempting to persuade the resident to make certain changes to his computer operating system."
The number from which the phone calls were made was 530-619-3038.
The alert states that such calls are scams "and an effort to have you reveal personal information."
Those receiving similar calls are asked to contact the sheriff's office at (419) 354-9001.
