PHS car fire was accidental
PERRYSBURG - A car fire that put the high school on lockdown last month was probably set by accident, according to a detective.
Det. Pat Jones of Perrysburg Police said Tuesday that "everything is indicating it was an article of clothing that started the fire. But it appears based on talking with all the people involved it was an accident how it started."
The fire was reported at 2 p.m. on Feb. 21 near the center of the student section of the parking lot. The fire began in one vehicle and then spread to vehicles on either side of it, damaging three cars in all, one of them reportedly beyond recognition.
The high school was placed under a lockdown protocol as a result of the incident, and the State Fire Marshal's Office was called to investigate.
A final report on the incident is expected within a week, said Jones.
