Rossford police get raise
ROSSFORD - City Council approved a new three-year contract with its police patrol officers and command officers Monday.
The new contract calls for the police to receive 3-percent raises in each year of the contract.
City Administrator Ed Ciecka said that the city has made some gains in the contract including additional leeway in hiring part-time officers and granting compensatory time that may cause overtime. The new contract also caps at $12,500 the amount of educational reimbursement a police officer may receive.
These ideas, Ciecka said, were recommended in a performance audit of the city conducted several years ago.
Union members will also join city officials on a committee to study health insurance coverage.
Councilman Greg Marquette said he was happy to approve the pay raises because the police unions passed on raises in earlier years when the city was facing extremely tough financial situation.
