The Common Good, a non-profit organization of the United Christian Fellowship, is hosting an informational meeting about its community gardening program Sunday at noon at the First United Methodist Church, 1526 E. Wooster St.
The Common Good is a community center located at 113 Crim St. In addition to the Bowling Green community gardens program, it offers free community meals, a food pantry, a free space for discussing spirituality, free yoga and meditation, and an after-school program at Crim Elementary.
Community gardens are located at First United Methodist Church and Peace Lutheran Church. Every year, volunteers for the Bowling Green community gardens request seeds from local garden shops.
The gardens rely on the idea of reciprocity. Anyone is welcome to volunteer, and volunteers who work in the gardens are welcome to take free, organic produce from the gardens. In the past, volunteers grew tomatoes, bell peppers, onions, kale, cabbage, lettuce, squash and a variety of herbs. The gardens will need regular maintenance beginning in April and throughout the summer.
