MILLBURY – The investigation into an incident involving a drunk Lake Township police officer that led to the resignation of the fire chief and two firefighters has stalled.

Police Chief Mark Hummer said Monday that Sgt. Scott Sims called in sick Friday and Monday.

Hummer said he has scheduled a disciplinary hearing with Sims for Thursday and hopes to have a decision by Friday.

“Before I make a decision, I need to talk to the employee,” the chief said.

At a special meeting Thursday, the Lake Township Trustees accepted the resignations of Fire Chief Todd Walters and longtime firefighters Richard and Michelle Hallock, who are married. The three attended the Feb. 16 wedding of Steve Sims, a member of the township fire department.

At the reception, they became concerned about the level of intoxication of his brother, Scott. The Sims brothers are the sons of Trustee Ron Sims, who was not at Thursday’s meeting.

The Hallocks drove Scott Sims home, then decided to treat him. They obtained two bags of saline solution from Lake Township Fire Station 2 in Millbury and administered them to Sims.

Walters had been part-time chief since February 2009 and a firefighter for over 25 years.

Hummer said Sims has been with the Lake Township Police Department for 15 years.
