Such is the case with Brian and Corey Sexton, who opened Celebration Station in the Crossroads business area on Nov. 16. The couple are the owners and operators of the party supply store. They held their grand opening Dec. 14.
Brian said the idea for the store came to him when he had to travel 25 miles to get the supplies he was looking for.
"We need one of these down in Perrysburg," was his thought noting the nearest similar stores are in Spring Meadows and up on Monroe Street in Toledo.
"It is a good niche and something that was not readily available in our area," he said.
Then providence showed itself as the landlord for the store said he had sought to obtain that type of store for the location and another company declined the opportunity.
When Sexton approached him he said, "That's a great idea."
The landlord agreeing the area is under served.
"When we took occupancy, there was literally a dirt floor in the suite. We built it from the ground up," he said.
The couple have been residents of Perrysburg for roughly 10 years. The business is an addition to their duties as both are full-time employees in their outside careers, with Celebration Station as a bonus. They also are the parents of two children, Lexi, 12, and Luke, 4.
When asked how they balance all that, Sexton said, "It's pretty hectic at times. We have a great assistant manager that runs the day-to-day operations."
In addition to that full-time assistant manager there are two Bowling Green State University students as part-time employees.
He added that both he and his wife will work from time to time at the store. They also can do a lot of their inventory, ordering and other business operations from their computer at home.
Their store stocks most anything and everything for a party.
"We have pretty much anything for your event, if we don't have it we can customize and get it in for you," Sexton said.
He noted they have a selection of more than 300 different balloons, both foil and latex. Their focus changes with the holidays, from the recent Christmas to New Years, Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, Mardi Gras, Cinco de Mayo, etc.
They also have supplies and can customize college, professional and high school sporting themes.
"We can put school logos on napkins and other party favors," he said.
"I also plan to do something with local school districts and churches in the area to offer them discounts," he added.
They have supplies for parties for children ranging to all the popular television and movie characters such as Dora and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, as well as new movie releases such as "Frozen."
Sexton also said they can serve as headquarters for both wedding receptions and merchandise as well as graduation parties.
They have a "catering aisle" which has trays, plates, burners and even heavy plastic punch bowls.
The store is located at 27250 Crossroads, just off U.S. Route 20. (Next to Corks Liquor Store.)
Store hours are Monday through Wednesday, noon to 7 p.m.; Thursday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The owner says they also will have seasonal and other periodic promotions and discounts available.
