U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is confirming the arrests of two men at a Bowling Green
apartment complex Wednesday morning.
Khaalid Walls, spokesman for ICE said Thursday in an email that "following a targeted enforcement
action, special agents with ICE’s Homeland Security Investigations arrested two men in Bowling Green.
The first individual is an aggravated felon, who was previously removed (from the United States). He is
facing federal felony charges for illegal re-entry after deportation. The second individual was arrested
for administrative immigration violations. Both men will be held in ICE custody pending the outcome of
their cases."
The incident was reported to BG police around 8:50 a.m. at the Green Meadows apartment complex, 214
Napoleon Road, when a caller told police they saw two men being placed into handcuffs and put into a
vehicle by two other men. The arresting men said they were with Homeland Security, according to Chief
Brad Conner, which was later confirmed.
A BG Police report on the incident indicated the men arrested were both Hispanic and that they did reside
in an apartment at Green Meadows. According to the report, both were employed at the Cosmos II
restaurant on South Main Street, and the owner of the restaurant had paid for their apartment.
During the incident, the man facing lesser immigration charges reportedly attempted to flee, but was
taken into custody after a brief foot chase. No injuries were reported.
The names of the two arrested men have not yet been released.
Conner indicated that BG Police were not told beforehand that an ICE operation was to be undertaken in
the city. A request for clarification on that issue was made to ICE Thursday, but additional information
has not been received.
