Honor Flight will be scaling back on the acceptance of veterans applications, beginning this month.
According to a press release sent Monday, the organization will be making the reduction due to the volume of veteran applications being submitted, and the number of veterans on their waiting list, which number more than 600 as of late June. Also a factor is the decrease in overall funding and an increase in the cost of each flight. The trips cost a little over $72,000 each.
The organization will continue to accept veteran applications from World War II veterans, but only those who have not already seen the World War II Memorial.
As of Monday, no further applications will be accepted from veterans of the Korean War, Vietnam War, and other conflicts.
The group has one more flight taking place this year, scheduled for Oct. 9. Two flights are anticipated in 2014.
The release additionally alerted veterans who have not yet applied that there are several other Honor Flight "hubs" in the state of Ohio, including:
•    Flag City Honor Flight, Findlay.
•    Honor Flight CAK, Akron/Canton.
•    Honor Flight Cleveland.
•    Honor Flight Columbus.
•    Honor Flight Dayton.
•    Honor Flight Tri-State, Cincinnati.
