Wood County Commissioner Doris Herringshaw has filed her petitions for election. Herringshaw was
appointed to fill the unexpired term of Tim Brown in 2013 and would like to continue to serve as a
county commissioner.
The commissioners have shown good management skills as proven by a consistent record of balancing the
budget, Herringshaw said. With conservative fiscal management, she said she has helped maintain those
best management practices. "My fiscally conservative views have been an asset in the management of
the county budget."
Wood County currently has one of the lowest unemployment rates in Northwest Ohio, which reflects the
important emphasis on jobs and economic development by the commissioners, she saids. Herringshaw has
been a member of the Good Jobs Initiative partnering with BGSU, Owens College, Penta, economic
development and skilled trade unions in encouraging job training and local employment opportunities.
Continuing to develop the county infrastructure has been a priority. She and the other commissioners
recently entered in an agreement with Ohio Department of Transportation to replace five bridges from
engineering to construction. Herringshaw supported the casino tax revenue monies being allocated to
engineer three additional county bridges.
Herringshaw is vice president of the Board of Commissioners and serves on Wood County Planning
Commission, Data Processing Board, and Toledo Metropolitan Area Council of Governments Air Quality Task
Force. She also has been active on the Erie Basin Resource Conservation and Development Task Force, Ohio
State University Extension Advisory Committee and Good Jobs Initiative. She is a member of the County
Commissioner Association of Ohio Agricultural and Rural Affairs committee.
In the community, Herringshaw is past president of the Bowling Green Chamber of Commerce, vice president
of the Bowling Green Community Foundation Board and is a member of the Rossford Business Council. She
served as the honorary chair of the first ever Project Homeless Connect in Wood County.
Herringshaw is a member of the Wood County Farm Bureau, Wood County Historical Society, and Genealogical
Society. She is a member in the Bowling Green Rotary and Exchange Club. Herringshaw and husband Paul
live in Liberty Township and have two adult children. She is a member of Christ United Methodist Church
in Portage where she chairs the leadership team.
