HASKINS - The Haskins Tree commission held their second annual Arbor Day celebration on April 24 at the Village Hall.
Cub Scouts of Pack 350 posted colors and passed out free trees.
The topic was "What It Takes to Plant the Right Tree Properly." This was an overview of the basic things to consider when and where a tree is planted. This includes selecting the right tree for the site by considering the soil type and space constraints, selecting a healthy well balanced tree from the nursery and how to place it in the ground to give it the best chance of healthy growth.
Participants also celebrated the fact that Haskins received its first Tree City USA award. The village first appointed the Tree Commission in January of 2011 and has been working hard to improve the status of the trees in the village.
