LUCKEY – An estimated $75,000 in damage was done to a Troy Township home in a fire reported late
Saturday.
Troy Township Fire Chief Randy Woodruff said this morning that the department was paged out just before 9
p.m. for a fire at a two-story home in the 20000 block of Caris Road between Devil’s Hole Road and Ohio
582.
Automatic aid was dispatched from Freedom Township, and tanker trucks were requested from Middleton and
Perrysburg townships, though the trucks were not used.
Woodruff said it appears that accumulated birds’ nests up against the flue pipe of a fireplace or
wood-burning stove may have been the cause in the incident. He indicated it appears fire subsequently
got into the walls of the home, causing much of the damage.
An unspecified number of residents were home and the time, and they escaped without injury.
Fire crews remained on-scene for approximately 2 1/2 hours.
An alert sent out by the Wood County Sheriff’s Office Saturday night indicated the incident created
