PEMBERVILLE – The resident of a village home is being assisted by relatives following a blaze on Lemoyne Road Sunday afternoon.
Pemberville-Freedom Township firefighters were dispatched to the scene, in the 17000 block of Lemoyne Road at 12:48 p.m. The blaze was reported to authorities by a passerby. No one was at the two-story farmhouse at the time of the fire.
“Upon my arrival we did have fire through the roof on the rear portion of the house. The fire was in the attic at that time,” said Pemberville Fire Chief Duane Martin.
Troy Township, Wayne, Woodville and Bradner fire departments were also called to the scene for mutual aid.
Crews remained on-scene until just after 6 p.m.
Martin characterized damage to the home as “extensive,” and noted that it is currently uninhabitable.
The State Fire Marshal was also called in to look at the scene.
“With a fire with that much damage, our standard procedure is we’ll call the Fire Marshal just to give us another set of eyes to look at it,” said Martin.
While the cause is still undetermined, the blaze is not believed to be suspicious and appears to have started in the attic portion of a one-story addition, located near the back of the home.
An estimate of damage was not available.
