BLOOMDALE  - A Pemberville man is dead following a single-vehicle crash in the 4000 block of Bloomdale Road, just north of Oil Center Road, Sunday.
Mitchell Aring, 30, a passenger in the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Wood County Sheriff's Office reports that Matthew Nissen, Pemberville, driving a 2001 Ford F-150, was northbound on Bloomdale Road when he traveled off the right side of the road, overcorrected, traveled off the left side of the road, and then rolled three times in a open field. The vehicle then struck a tree.
Nissen was taken to Toledo Hospital by air ambulance with incapacitating injuries. He was not wearing a seat belt. Aring was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
The time the crash occurred was not available, but it was reported that the incident took place in the early morning hours and was not discovered until approximately 6:30 a.m.
The crash report on the incident was incomplete this morning.

that is why maybe seat belts aren't such a good thing-- it should be optional-- motorcyclist should have to wear helmets then!!!

That has to be the dumbest comment. Do you realize how many lives are saved because of seatbelts.I bet it far out weighs those without belts.

Becky, it really depends on the crash. I've had friends survive terrible crashes BECAUSE of seatbelts; I've also lost friends wearing seatbelts as well as friends who weren't. There is no definitive answer.

In most cases, seatbelts protect the wearer. As the crash report is incomplete, there is no way to tell if the injuries of the deceased were related to being belted in. Perhaps his injuries were so profound that death would have occurred regardless.

My heart goes out to their families; I pray that the survivor pulls through.

Becky, a young man was killed, the younger driver seriously injured, and all you have to comment on is seat belts may not be such a good thing? Motorcyclists should wear helmets? Why bring up this particular debate in regard to this accident? Our thoughts and prayers need to go out to both families involved. This has nothing to do with seatbelt and helmets laws.
