TOLEDO - In the midst of April/National Donate Life Month, several northwest Ohioans will take a seat to take a stand on the importance of organ and tissue donation.
Life Connection of Ohio, the organ procurement organization that serves northwest and west central Ohio, is gearing up for its third annual 24-hour Donate Life Sit-in.
The event will take place Wednesday from  9:30 a.m. through Thursday at 9:30 a.m. at the WTOL news station at 730 N. Summit St.
During this round-the-clock event, transplant recipients, donor family members, living donors and those who support the cause will rotate in and out of the Green Chair, the star of Life Connection of Ohio's latest awareness campaign.
The overstuffed Green Chair's meaning is two-fold. When it is empty, the Green Chair represents overwhelming sadness from the loss of someone who was waiting for a transplant that never came. But when someone is sitting in the Green Chair, it showcases a transplant recipient's second chance at life.
Among the Wood County transplant recipients scheduled to participate are Carol Kominek, Pemberville; Ashley Sheeks-Butler, Bowling Green; Ted Sipes, Bowling Green; and Kathy White, Pemberville. Also participating will be Dave and Jean Peterson, donor parents from Custar.
For more information about organ and tissue donation, contact Life Connection of Ohio at (419) 893-1618 or register as an organ and tissue donor at www.DonateLifeOhio.org.
The Bowling Green BMV Agency has won its 10th consecutive Front Line Award for having the highest donor registration rate in District 4 in 2012. Life Connection of Ohio will present the Bowling Green BMV staff with the award on April 25.
