Distracted driving focus of April campaign PDF Print E-mail

LIME CITY - Wood County Safe Communities is observing National Distracted Driving Awareness Month.
Across the nation, crashes involving a distracted driver killed 3,092 people in 2010.
While anything that takes a driver's eyes off the road is a hazard, there is heightened concern about the risks of texting while driving because it combines all three types of distraction - visual, manual and cognitive.
Every driver in the county has a role in this effort. Wood County Safe Communities wants to reach out to parents with teen drivers; statistically the under-20 age group had the highest proportion of distracted drivers involved in fatal crashes.
The goal is simple - save lives by getting drivers to remember "One Text or Call Could Wreck It All."
