Lori Hanway, owner and manager of A Taste of Amish Deli, has listened to her customers and has relocated to 133 E. Wooster St. in Bowling Green.
Hanway says the move has increased the restaurant’s visibility and accessibility. Customers, college students especially, wanted A Taste of Amish Deli closer to the downtown area. “When the customers are telling you to move your location so you’re more convenient, that’s what you do.”
Hanway has been the owner of A Taste of Amish Deli for seven years. The deli formerly was located at Woodland Mall.
She is pleased with the renovated look of the new location. “It’s a cozy deli.” Customers “have a lot of Amish wedding products to look at while they’re eating,” she adds.
The Amish-made “jams, jellies, pickles, relishes, jerky, candies and bulk goods” displayed around the store are all shipped in from Holmes County. “We get our Amish baked goods every Wednesday fresh from Apple Creek, from the Troyer’s Home Pantry.” Miller’s Homestyle Bakery in Sugar Creek, supplies the cookies and bread.
Troyer’s website shows a large portion of what A Taste of Amish Deli provides. The deli provides unique snacks like Wasabi peas, Cajun trail mixes, graham cracker pretzels and blueberry pretzels, to name a few.
All of the foods can be put into a gift box, “created at your own price,” says Hanway.
Visitors seem to have a difficult time picking between the Reuben’s (one of Hanway’s favorites) and the Friday special, the double decker BLT.
“I kind of like the Reuben sandwich—no, the Garbage Can.  It’s a little bit of everything, hot or cold.”  Hanway admits that she’s been eating A Taste of Amish Deli food for so many years she can’t pick a favorite.
A Taste of Amish Deli is sit-down and carry-out. Hanway believes they are busiest during the winter holiday season. “Probably because we offer gift certificates, gift boxes and unique products that we don’t offer at any other time but Christmas.”
The deli will cater parties between 15 to 200 people and offers party trays along with their regular sandwich menu.
The deli is open Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.; and Thursday, Friday and Saturday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. The deli is closed on Sundays.
Hanway hopes it doesn’t snow Monday, the day of their grand opening. Mayor Dick Edwards will officiate the ribbon cutting ceremony at 11 a.m.
“We’re going to have $5 sandwiches, 50 cent hot dogs and free popcorn with lots of samplings of the meats and cheeses we have to offer,” said Hanway.
Amish Guggisberg Swiss cheese will be on sale for $5.99 per pound and ham off the bone for $4.99 per pound during the opening.  The deli will be offering numerous Amish popcorn flavors for free.
“If anybody wants to come and join the grand opening, that would be nice,” Hanway stated.
This spring,  A Taste of Amish Deli is holding a double-double decker BLT contest.
