Dayspring Assembly of God’s Junior Bible Quiz team is raising funds to compete at the JBQ National
Festival near Charlotte, North Carolina.
To help with costs for the trip the team is hosting two "Harlan Chicken Dinner" fundraisers on
Friday and May 30 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the church, 17360 N. Dixie Hwy.
Pull up in the car, and drive away with a chicken dinner for $8. The dinner includes half barbecue
chicken, potatoes, green beans and the utensil. Cash or check only.
Team members are Shani Estep, Luke Kobylski and Johanna Slembarski, who are all sixth-graders at Bowling
Green Christian Academy. They qualified by earning first place in the State of Ohio competition, which
grants them an automatic bid to the National completion in June. Team ‘Christos Anthropos’ earned a 13-0
record over the two-day meet.
The competition consists of memorizing Bible verses and questions, and then "buzzing in" first
in order to answer the question. Questions have point values of 10, 20 or 30, with 20 questions per
round.
This year, they were 25-0 in the Northwest JBQ league and have been undefeated two years in a row.
At the national event, they will compete against 80 other teams from all over the nation, with 15 rounds
the first day and nine more the second day.
