Three people were taken to area hospitals following two crashes in Wood County this weekend.
The Wood County Sheriff’s Office reports that on Friday at 6:33 p.m. Matthew Patzin, Bowling Green, was
southbound on Ohio 25 when Gilbert Springstead, Bowling Green, pulled from a stop sign at Bishop Road in
an attempt to turn left, and into Patzin’s path.
Springstead sustained incapacitating injuries and was taken to Wood County Hospital by Mid-County EMS. He
was later taken by air ambulance to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center, Toledo.
His passenger, Devin Springstead, 7, Bowling Green, was also taken to Wood County Hospital, then to St.
Vincent, with non-incapacitating injuries.
Gilbert Springstead was cited in the crash. He is still a patient at St. Vincent, but no condition was
available this morning.
At 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jesus Alvarez, Wayne, was southbound in the 9000 block of Pemberville Road in
Montgomery Township when he reportedly slowed down and moved over for an oncoming vehicle. Alvarez then
drove into a snowbank, which then dragged him into a utility pole.
His passenger, Jacob West, Wayne, reported injuries and was taken to Wood County Hospital by an unknown
vehicle.
