Crash tangles traffic on BG’s east side

Three people were injured in two crashes in the city Friday, including one that snarled
traffic on the east side of town.At 4:54 p.m. Laura Helweg, Bowling Green, was westbound on East Wooster
Street, approaching South Mercer Road in the left turn lane, when she failed to yield the right of way
for a vehicle driven by Nandi Brown, Bowling Green, which was eastbound on East Wooster.Helweg began to
turn southbound into Brown’s path and both vehicles collided.Brown’s vehicle then spun southward and
struck a vehicle driven by John Knepper, Bradner, which was stopped northbound on Mercer Road for a red
light.Brown sustained incapacitating injuries and was taken to Wood County Hospital by Bowling Green
Fire/EMS. She was not listed as a patient at the hospital this morning.Her passenger, Breanna Copeland,
Bowling Green, sustained non-incapacitating injuries and was also transported to the hospital. Neither
Helweg nor Knepper, or Knepper’s passenger, reported injury.Helweg was cited for right of way at a left
turn.At 11:05 a.m. Emily Stalter, Bowling Green, was southbound on North Main Street when Paige
Quaintance, Rudolph, failed to yield while making a left turn and was struck by Stalter’s
vehicle.Stalter sustained non-incapacitating injuries and was taken to the hospital.Quaintance was cited
for right of way at a left turn.
