County Park District plans backyard campout, family fishing

Paddle the Pond, every Monday from June through August, 4 to 7 p.m., W.W. Knight Nature Preserve – 29530
White Road, Perrysburg – Take a canoe for a spin on the pond. If you have never canoed, this is a great
way to give it a try. Canoes, paddles, life preservers and instructions are provided. There is no charge
and everything is supplied. Canoes will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis. Join a ranger the
first Monday of the month for more in-depth canoe instruction. No registration necessary.
• Native Nursery Nights, 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and July 3, Reuthinger Preserve, 30730 Oregon Road,
Perrysburg – Volunteers may be asked to plant, water, weed and collect seed at the Native Plant Nursery
and Greenhouse. Dress to work outdoors and bring gloves if you have them.
• National Wildlife Federation’s Great American Backyard Campout, 6:30 p.m. Saturday until 10 a.m.
Sunday, William Henry Harrison Park, 644 Bierley Ave., Pemberville – Celebrate this event in the Wood
County Park District’s "backyard." There will be activities throughout the evening, a campfire
and s’mores, and a light breakfast in the morning. Participants must supply their own tent and sleeping
equipment. A limited amount of tents are available for borrowing. Call 419-661-1697 ext. 1 with
questions.
• Family Fishing Night, 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday, W.W. Knight Nature Preserve, 29530 White Road, Perrysburg –
Try to catch the big one at W.W. Knight Nature Preserve. A ranger will be on hand to help first-time
fishermen with loaner poles and worms. Children must have adult supervision; adults must be accompanied
by a child to fish.
• Why Wetlands?, 7 to 8:15 p.m. July 2, W.W. Knight Nature Preserve front porch, 29530 White Road,
Perrysburg – A wetland is a valuable habitat for people and creatures large and small. A group will go
in the wetland to look for critters, so make sure to bring water shoes and clothes to get wet and muddy.

• Bluebird Trail Maintenance, 6:15 to 7:45 p.m. July 2, Baldwin Woods Preserve – Help keep the trails
open for bluebird monitors. Prune, lop and pull woody and invasive species around nest boxes. Gloves and
tools will be provided. Be aware that thorny plants and poison ivy may be encountered.
