TOLEDO - An attorney for admitted Islamic Center arsonist Randolph Linn has filed a motion seeking a competency evaluation for his client.
The document, filed Wednesday in U.S. District Court by defense attorney John Thebes, asks for the evaluation "prior to any hearing this court may have regarding (Linn's) motion to withdraw his guilty pleas."
Linn, 52, St. Joe, Ind., is scheduled to have a hearing March 21 before Judge Jack Zouhary for his previous request to withdraw his guilty plea in the case.
A formal withdrawal motion was also filed by his attorney Wednesday.
Linn pleaded in December to federal hate crimes and weapons charges in the Sept. 30 arson at the Islamic Center of Greater Toledo, in Perrysburg Township, but asked to withdraw that plea in January, citing depression and duress.
