Fish fry Friday at Grand Rapids
GRAND RAPIDS — Alva N. Sidle American Legion Post 232 will hold a fish fry Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Post Home, 12580 South River Road.
All you care to eat $9.
Events at BG VFW
VFW Post 1148, 719 S. Main St., will hold two pubic events this week.
Friday from 4:30 to 7 p.m. there will be a fish or shrimp dinner with baked beans fries, cole slaw and roll. Carryouts available. Call (419) 353-6371
Saturday from 8 p.m. to midnight will be karaoke.
Bradner Day in Park Saturday
BRADNER — Bradner Day in Park Saturday will feature a car show, parade, contests, entertainment and educational opportunities.
Registration for the car show runs from 8 to 11 a.m., with awards to the top 20 cars and trucks at 3 p.m. Registration is $10.
Parade line up is at 11 a.m. in the old school lot and moves at noon. The Grand Marshall is Grizzly Brown from 104.7 WIOT.
There is a baby/toddler contest at 2 p.m., followed by the The Hot Flashes from 4 to 5 and the bike/basket raffle at 5, followed by the watermelon eating contest at 6.
Also planned are a 4K walk/run at 6:30 and a kids one-mile fun run at 7:30
The Attic Band plays from 6 to 7 with Life Flight landing with weather permitting. Kids rides are from 1-6. Fire safety trailer from 1-5.
Beer tent and Kentucky Thunder Band from 8 to midnight. Fireworks at dusk. Crafters and food vendors all day.
Ice cream social Saturday
RISINGSUN — The annual Scott Trinity United Methodist Church ice cream social will be held Saturday at the church, 6076 County Road 11, Risingsun, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
The public is invited to join in the food which includes homemade pies, several kinds of sandwiches, homemade noodle soup and Dietsch’s ice cream.
Applications: Tools for Schools
Each year the Salvation Army conducts a program, Tools for Schools, for under-served children, providing backpacks packed with supplies.
This year applications will be accepted at The Salvation Army office, 1045 N. Main St., Bowling Green beginning Saturday through Aug. 9 from 9 a.m. to noon and 12:30 to 4 p.m., Monday-Friday.
Call (419) 352-5918 for information on documentation required. Distribution of backpacks will be Aug. 14.
S-T editor is Kiwanis speaker
Sentinel-Tribune Editor Jan Larson McLaughlin will give a fresh perspective on the newspaper and the newspaper business at the July 25 meeting of the Bowling Green Kiwanis Club.
Kiwanis meets at noon at Stone Ridge Golf Club.
BG Rotary to host district gov.
Bowling Green Rotary will host a visit from the new District Governor, Joe Ludwig at the July 25 meeting.
Rotary meets at 11:40 a.m. at Bowling Green Country Club.
BUGFEST Saturday at Magee
The annual BUGFEST will be held at Magee Marsh Wildlife Area in Ottawa County Saturday from noon until 4 p.m. The free family fun program will feature five different stations, all relating to learning about the world of insects. After visiting all stations, participants will be awarded their “Degree of Bugology.”
“Musical Mark” will entertain with his bug songs. The Friends of Magee Marsh will have root beer floats available.
There will also be edible insects to try and other non-insect refreshments.Gather at the Bird Center, Magee Marsh,13229 W. Ohio 2, Oak Harbor.
Christmas planning Sunday
The staff at the Wood County Historical Center and Museum is starting its Christmas planning for Journey to a Winter Wonderland (December 7-20).
If you want to be on board as a decorator, attend an informational meeting Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m.,
If you want to join the Christmas Gala planning meeting, stop by the museum Tuesday at 10 a.m.
Red Cross blood drives
American Red Cross blood drives are scheduled:
• Tuesday, noon to 5 p.m., Sterling House, Bowling Green, appointments only.
• July 26, 1 to 6 p.m., Luckey Ecumenical Council at Luckey American Legion, 335 Park Drive.
• July 26, 1 to 7 p.m., St. Jerome’s Catholic Church, 300 Warner St., Walbridge.
• July 26, 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Stadium View Apartments, 1700 Juniper Drive, Bowling Green.
Way Library Book Sale July 25
PERRYSBURG — Way Public Library Foundation and Friends will hold a Market Day Book Sale July 25. from 2 to 6 p.m. on the lower level of the library. All proceeds benefit the library.
Used and new books are available at $15 for a large bag or $5 for a small bag. Items may also be purchased individually.
Programs at BG library Monday
Families, come to the Wood County District Public Library Children’s Place Monday at 10:30 a.m. for popcorn and the Monday Morning Movie based on Thomas Rockwell’s favorite humorous book “How to Eat Fried Worms.”
Monday at 1 p.m. head to the library for journey stories about the Underground Railroad in Northwest Ohio with Mike McMaster from the Wood County Historical Center and Museum.
