Haskins social Sunday
HASKINS - The annual community "Ice Cream Social" and combined worship service co-sponsored by St. Paul Lutheran and Haskins Federated Churches will be held Sunday at Lusher Park and at St. Paul's, one mile west of the village on Ohio 582.
The joint morning worship service will begin at 9:30 a.m. at Lusher Park. Those attending are reminded to bring folding lawn chairs for the service.
The ice cream social will operate from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran.
Proceeds from the event will be donated for the medical expenses of Seth Davis who has cystic fibrosis and Susanna Herman who has breast cancer.
The menu includes sloppy joes, hot dogs, coney dogs, chicken and noodles, chips, pie, cake, ice cream and beverage.
Events also include a "Classic Car" show, a silent auction, kids games, dunk tank, face painting and music provided by Advent Ground.
The Wood County chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans will donate funds to the benefit.
Taco and beans at VFW
VFW Post 1148 will have a taco with beans dinner Friday from 4:30 to 7 p.m.

Pancake breakfast is Saturday
GRAND RAPIDS - There will be a pancake breakfast 8-11 a.m. Saturday at New Life Community Wesleyan Church, the corner of Woodburn Ave. and Second St. in Grand Rapids. The cost is a donation of any amount.
Soup, salad benefit Sunday
The congregation of Hope Lutheran Church, 13507 Cloverdale Road, will host a soup and salad luncheon in the fellowship hall Sunday from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Donations will benefit the Aliyah Girdler family. Aliyah is a baby girl from Findlay who had complications at her birth in January and a few months later while the family was at a hospital in Columbus dealing with the baby's health issues, their house burned.
Thrivent Financial for Lutherans will be giving supplemental funds.
Arbor Gleaners to attend lunch
Portage Center Arbor No. 524 of the Gleaners will meet Sunday at Hope Lutheran Church on corner of Cloverdale and Linwood Roads at 11:45 p.m. There will be a short meeting and a guest speaker after the soup and salad lunch. The public is invited.
Blood drives next week
American Red Cross blood drives are scheduled in Wood County:
• Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Christ's Church, 14455 Campbell Hill Road.
• July 19, noon to 6 p.m., Lutheran Church of the Master, 28744 Simmons Road, Perrysburg.
Composting workshop July 19
A free Composting Connections workshop for families will be held July 19 from 11 a.m. to noon at the Wood County Historical Museum Herb Garden.
This hands-on family program teaches children how to make compost and learn about the composting process. It was developed by the Center for Food and Culture. Bring a picnic lunch to enjoy grounds afterwards. Lemonade will be provided.
CPR training offered
PERRYSBURG - The Fire CPR Training Center will hold a Family and Friends CPR class at the Way Public Library on Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m.
The class will cover Adult Hands Only CPR with AED and Choking, Child CPR and Choking, and Infant CPR and Choking.
This class is free to the community. This is not a class for certification.

Eagle Scout raising funds for church project at Bob Evans
NORTHWOOD - A community fundraiser will be held all day July 22 at Bob Evans restaurant, 435 Lemoyne Road, to raise funds for Eagle Scout candidate A.J. Poullaf's service project at Zion Lutheran Church of Perrysburg. He is raising $3,000 for his project which involves replacing a sidewalk and brick wall at the church.
Bob Evans will donate 15 percent of patrons' receipts to the project. A flyer must be presented at the time of purchase.
Flyers may be picked up at the church, 26535 Pemberville Road, Perrysburg, near Lemoyne.
Pinterest workshop at Way
PERRYSBURG - Way Library will offer a free "Pinterest" workshop for adults July 20 at 10 a.m.
Teacher and hobbyist Crystal Weiler will conduct this workshop about how to use Pinterest, the social network that doubles as a tool for collecting and organizing the things that inspire users.
Attendees will make a Pinterest-inspired craft to take home. There are a limited number of spaces available for this free, adults-only class, and registration is required. Call (419) 874-3135 ext. 119 for more information or to register.
This event is part of Way Library's Adult Summer Reading Program and is sponsored by Directions Credit Union.
