The commander of the Bowling Green post of the Ohio Highway Patrol was injured in a two-vehicle crash at 8:30 a.m. Friday on Sugar Ridge Road and Ohio 199.
Post commander Lt. Jerrod Savidge, 44, of Bowling Green, was taken to Wood County Hospital for treatment of minor injuries following the crash and was later treated and released, according to the OHP.
Savidge was traveling north on Ohio 199 in a 2009 Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor when a 2012 Dodge Avenger driven by Thomas Schmeltz, 22, of Pemberville, failed to yield while traveling east on Sugar Ridge Road.
Schmeltz's vehicle struck Savidge's vehicle in the left rear side forcing it off the right side of the road.
Schmeltz was not injured, but was cited for failure to yield at a stop sign.
Both vehicles suffered disabling damage and had to be towed from the scene. Route 199 was closed for about two hours.
Assisting at the scene was Pemberville Fire and EMS, the Ohio Department of Transportation, Wright's Towing and DC Collision.
