Cause unknown for Pburg power outage

PERRYSBURG – The cause is still unknown in a power outage that left more than 11,000 in the dark
throughout the Perrysburg area Thursday.
Gary Keys, area manager for Toledo Edison, said this morning that power went out just before 3 p.m.
"We had a piece of equipment fail at one of our substations in Perrysburg," he said. "It’s
called a lightning arrestor."
Customers in Perrysburg and Perrysburg Township were largely those affected; Rossford and some outlying
areas also had outages.
Keys said they were able to switch substations and had power back to the vast majority of customers
around 4 p.m.
"The remaining 4,500 were all brought back in just a little bit before 7 p.m."
City Administrator Bridgette Kabat said this morning that only four traffic lights were out in the city
due to the incident, all along Ohio 25. Police officers were briefly out directing traffic, until
four-way stop signs were erected.
Keys said he did not have an update this morning as to whether or not the affected arrestor was back in
operation. It has not been determined whether the cause was due to weather or an equipment failure.
