Staff members at the Children's Resource Center are undergoing a new type of training that targets youth who have experienced or are currently experiencing traumatic situations.
Eighteen staff members went through Structured Psychotherapy for Adolescents Responding to Chronic Stress (SPARCS) training in May.
The training was instructed by Dr. Mandy Habib. During the two full days of training, each clinician was a leader or co-leader of a SPARCS group treatment. This was followed by two more full days of training and on-going phone consultation by the trainer.
The groups are up and running at the CRC and at area schools, said CRC executive director Janelle LaFond.
"We have learned over the years that trauma is at the base of many mental health disorders and CRC has worked hard to make sure clinicians are well-trained in this area," LaFond said.
