Authorities – including a Highway Patrol helicopter – searched the area of Sand Ridge and Wintergarden roads Tuesday night after a reported burglary.
According to Bowling Green Police, at approximately 9:50 p.m. a resident arrived at their home in the 1400 block of Sand Ridge Road and found a subject – identified as a clean-cut white male, bald, with a black backpack, tan shirt and dark pants – inside the residence.
“They had some words and then (the subject) fled the area,” said Maj. Tony Hetrick of the Bowling Green Police Division.
The subject reportedly took some property from the home, but Hetrick said the nature of that property could not be disclosed at this time.
An officer responding to the incident saw a subject walking along Wintergarden Road, who then darted into a cornfield.
Police, Wood County Sheriff’s deputies and troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol worked to secure a perimeter around a cornfield in the vicinity of Sand Ridge and Wintergarden, as well as Deer Ridge Run and the Stone Ridge Golf Course off of West Wooster Street. A Patrol helicopter was also called in from Columbus to assist. The helicopter was equipped with thermal imaging technology.
Hetrick said that two sweeps of the area were conducted, but by 12:38 a.m. this morning, the search had been concluded without finding the suspect.
