NORTH BALTIMORE - After suffering a stroke last month, village council member Jeff Bretz has returned to duty this month.
Soon after arriving home after a council meeting on March 5, Bretz said his right leg gave out on him, he could not speak and his face sagged.
"It was a small, but full-blown stroke," he said.
Bretz was rushed by North Baltimore EMS to Blanchard Valley Hospital in Findlay.
"It was a very quick response time. It was very much appreciated," Bretz said during council's meeting on April 16.
He remained hospitalized until March 7.
While he has returned to work full-time in Holland, Ohio as a sales and tooling engineer at Ottawa Rubber Company, Bretz said he still feels the impacts of the stroke.
"Do I feel like I am 100 percent? No."
Bretz did not sustain any severe brain damage as a result of the stroke, but he said he walks a little slower and has difficulty gathering his thoughts.
April 16 was his first council meeting since the stroke.
"It is nice to see Mr. Bretz back tonight," said fellow council member Leslee Thompson.
"I am glad I am able to walk in the door here and speak to everybody," Bretz replied.
