The Board of Public Utilities heard a presentation from AMP Public Power Partners Monday night, as the body considers whether to renew its contract with AMP's Efficiency Smart program.
"We've had tremendous success in Bowling Green," said AMP representative Randy Corbin as he spoke at the meeting.
The City of Bowling Green has been in the program since 2011, and is one of nearly 50 in the area. The Efficiency Smart program provides cost savings, and encourages residential, commercial, and industrial energy customers to adopt money-saving energy efficiency services.
"Of 49 communities, you are by far the biggest saver in the program," said Corbin, to the tune of 15 percent.
If the contract is renewed, the city will purchase power at the price of $1.40 per megawatt hour - down 10 cents from the previous contract. Over the next 10 years, if the city continues with the program, it is expected to save nearly $1.2 million.
"Spread out cost over those years, it really is a better deal," said Public Utilities Director Brian O'Connell at the meeting.
No action was taken; a recommendation is expected to go before the board at its Sept. 23 meeting.
In other business, the board:
‚Äʬ†¬† ¬†Approved a resolution to advertise for bids for sewer lining projects on Hillcrest Drive and Lyn Road. Once bid, the projects are expected to begin next year.
‚Äʬ†¬† ¬†Approved a request for quotation (RFQ) for engineering services at the Water Pollution Control facility, specifically in the grit removal system, which is over 30 years old and undersized to deal with current volume.
‚Äʬ†¬† ¬†Agreed to an additional $7,500 for the repairs and service line item in the budget.
