|Both sides file grievances in Perrysburg school contract talks|

PERRYSBURG — Grievances filed by both sides surround a debate over compensation that has teachers working on an expired contract.
Superintendent Tom Hosler filed an unfair labor practice charge Monday with the State Employment Relations Board against the Perrysburg Education Association, the teachers' union.
The complaint claims that union representatives failed to respond with availability for a fact-finding session to take place after the sides failed to negotiate a new agreement with a mediator Oct. 8.
"By failing and refusing reasonable promptly to make itself available for mediation and then fact-finding, PEA has violated its duty to bargain in good faith at reasonable times and places," a violation of the Ohio Revised Code, the complaint states.
Hosler said expediency is imperative, as fact-finding could take place in December and must be scheduled soon.
More than 50 teachers and community members appeared at Monday's school board meeting to show support of the union, which filed a grievance claiming the school district would not negotiate a new system for teacher evaluations.
Hosler said the two sides reached a "conceptual agreement" on the evaluations several months ago, and the matter was not currently open for renegotiation.
