COLUMBUS - Effective Monday the fee for late renewal of motor vehicle registration will be reduced from $20 to $10. In addition, the previous 7-day grace period associated with the fee has been extended to 30 days.
The BMV asks drivers to keep in mind that it is still illegal to operate a motor vehicle after the registration expiration date as doing so can result in citations and fines.
In order to avoid a late fee, vehicle owners to complete renewals up to 90 days before the expiration date, either in person, at a local deputy registrar, by mail or on-line at www.OPLATES.com.
Vehicle registrations typically expire on the motorist's birthday, as some mistakenly believe expiration is at the end of the month.
For more information on the BMV late fee reduction call (614) 752-7800 or visit www.ohiobmv.gov.
