Sue Stokes is a French horn player in the Bowling Green Area Community Band and a charter member of the ensemble. She is a bookkeeper with Vitakraft Sun Seed Inc.,  Weston. Stokes is a member of St. Louis Parish in Custar, where she volunteers on the festival committee. She enjoys gardening and tending four acres of land with her husband of 37 years, Rick.

BG man indicted for raping a child PDF Print E-mail

A Wood County grand jury on Wednesday indicted a Bowling Green man with the rape of a child.
The panel also officially indicted the Jak’s Pharmacy robbery suspect with the charges previously filed against him.
According to the indictment for rape, Maurice Preston Cord, 25, of Bowling Green, on or about Aug. 9, 2013 did engage in sexual conduct with a 12-year-old.  
Cord was 24 at the time of the alleged first-degree felony offense. The grand jury also indicted him with two counts of importuning and two counts of corrupting another with drugs.
The importuning counts both allege that  on March 2, Cord “did recklessly solicit” two additional victims “to engage in sexual conduct” with him.

Resurfacing starts on I-475
The Ohio Department of Transportation District Two has announced the Interstate 475 resurfacing in both Lucas and Wood counties has begun and will run through October.
From 7 p.m. until 6 a.m., lane restrictions are possible on I-475 from Ohio 25 to U.S. 20A for resurfacing.

Grant funds increased patrols
The Wood County Sheriff's Office will conduct increased patrols through Sunday, due to grant funding form the Ohio Traffic Safety Office.
Deputies will be looking for violations such as driving under the influence, failure to yield and speeding.

Free firewood available in Pemberville PDF Print E-mail

PEMBERVILLE - Beginning next Wednesday, interested parties may remove downed and dead trees for firewood from Oberhouse Park, Bierley Street, Pemberville.
All persons who wish to harvest this wood will need to obtain a permit from Village Hall, at no charge, which includes a map of the park boundaries and the single entrance to the park area.
This entrance is a narrow easement from Bierley Avenue, and will be marked by striping or flags. All equipment for harvesting this wood, including saws, axes and transport equipment, shall be supplied by the applicant. The Village is not responsible for any accidents, injuries or damages as a result of this offering.
