Perrysburg man gets three years for vehicular homicide PDF Print E-mail

Justin Shane, 24, Perrysburg, was sentenced to three years in prison Friday in the courtroom of Wood County Judge Alan Mayberry.
Shane pleaded guilty in November to one count of second-degree aggravated vehicular homicide as part of a plea deal.
According to Ohio Highway Patrol troopers, on Aug. 29, 2012, Shane was westbound on Dowling Road at a high rate of speed when his vehicle went off the north side of the roadway, crossed Carter Road and struck a tree.
The crash killed his passenger, Crystal McLaughlin, Bradner, who was 31 at the time.
Shane had a blood-alcohol level of 0.198, higher than the legal limit of 0.08.

BG Board of Education calls Saturday meeting PDF Print E-mail

The Bowling Green Board of Education will hold an emergency meeting on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Administrative Offices building, 137 Clough St., for the purpose of modifying the 2013-2014 school calendar, adoption of a resolution regarding the use of blizzard bags/on-line make-up days for the 2013-2014 school year and discuss other options for make-up days.
Action is expected to be taken.
The district has lost 11 days due to weather. Five days are allowed.
Legislation in Columbus might increase allowed calamity days to nine.
Currently, the last day for classes in Bowling Green is May 30.

Traffic blitz on Sunday
Wood County Safe Communities has announced that law enforcement will be holding a traffic blitz on Sunday to coincide with the Super Bowl.
Drivers are reminded to be mindful of all traffic safety laws, and to designate a driver if their celebrations will include alcoholic beverages.

Typical flu season in county
Wood County is still experiencing a typical flu season.
As of Jan. 25, there have been 11 flu-related hospitalizations, compared to 12 last season, according to Nikki Brue, epidemiologist at the Wood County Health District. She also advised there has been a total of 59 reported cases in Wood County, compared to 77 cases last year.

BMV offers multi-year, permanent registrations PDF Print E-mail

The Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) is issue multi-year/permanent registrations to those customers who have a commercial trailer or semi-trailer vehicle registered in Ohio.
Multi-year (two to seven years) and permanent (eight years) registrations will allow customers to purchase multi-year commercial trailer and semi-trailer registrations for up to seven consecutive years or pay the equivalent of eight years of registration fees to receive a permanent registration plate (for the life of the trailer, non-transferable).
The permanent registrations will receive a plate with the word "permanent" printed between the bolt holes and "No Exp" printed (no expiration) at the bottom right hand corner.

•    Winter Fest, 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, W.W. Knight Preserve - Snow games, cool hikes, winter art, animal tracking, a warming fire, hot treats and more invite us outside to see how much fun nature in winter can be. No snow, no worries. There will still be lots of fun stuff going on. Indoors and out, dress for the weather.
•    Greenhouse Help Volunteer Opportunity, 1 to 3 p.m. Feb. 4, Reuthinger Preserve - Help grow plants at the native nursery and greenhouse. Volunteers may be asked to perform a variety of functions such as transplanting seedlings, filling pots or watering plants. No experience necessary.
