James F. Carter of Grand Rapids will serve as president of the Wood County Board of Commissioners for 2014, and commissioner Doris I. Herringshaw of Liberty Township will serve as vice president.
The board will continue regular meetings on Tuesday and Thursday mornings with open forum on regular meeting days following regular business, allowing citizens to speak with the board without scheduling a meeting. Town hall meetings are also in the process of being scheduled throughout the county. Times and locations will be announced as they are scheduled.
As president of the board, Carter will serve on boards and commissions including the Toledo Metropolitan Area Council of Governments (TMACOG) Board of Trustees, Community Corrections Board, Investment Advisory Committee, Financial Report Review Committee, Family and Children First Council, Records Commission and Solid Waste Policy Committee.

GRAND RAPIDS - Authorities are watching an ice jam on the Maumee River that could cause flooding in the village.
Wood County Emergency Management Director Brad Gilbert said this morning that the half-mile-long ice jam is located in Henry County, nearly two miles west of Grand Rapids.
The issue is already causing minor flooding of properties in Henry County, and the National Weather Service has issued a flood warning.
Gilbert said the Grand Rapids Fire Department is monitoring the situation, but they do not anticipate a major impact on the village.

Jan. 31 is the deadline for 2014 dog registrations.
A registration fee of $14 must be paid with the application for each dog registered. The information necessary for registration is age, sex, color, length of hair, whether spayed or neutered, breed of the dog and the name, address and phone number of the owner.
Dogs may be registered for a one-year or three-year term or a permanent license (for the dog's life). When completing the application, choose your "Term" (1 Year, 3 Year or Permanent). The 3 Year and Permanent License may only be purchased by mail or in person at the Wood County Auditor's Office.  Fees are $14 for a one-year license, $42 for a three-year license and $140 for a permanent license. No refunds are permitted
A kennel fee of $70 must be paid with the application and additional tags are available for $1 each for kennels with more than five dogs.

ODOT works on I-75 tonight
The Ohio Department of Transportation District Two announces that effective tonight at 7 p.m. through Friday at 6 a.m.,, intermittent short-term lane restrictions are possible on I-75, from I-475 to the Wood/Hancock County line for pavement repair.
All work is weather permitting.

Teen Central hosts Late Night
Bowling Green Teen Central will be hosting Late Night at the TACC for students in grades 6-8 on Friday from 9:30 p.m. to midnight at the Community Center. Participants must register for the event by calling the Community Center.
