State Representative Tim Brown, R-Bowling Green, has announced that the Ohio House of Representatives
passed legislation that would designate a portion of Ohio 65 in Wood County as the "Staff Sergeant
Bradley C. Hart Memorial Roadway." House Bill 440 passed through the House Transportation, Public
Safety, and Homeland Security Committee.
Hart died on Feb. 17 of 2011 at his base in Djibouti, Africa, from injuries he received in a noncombat
incident while performing his official military duties. He was a Perrysburg High School and Penta Career
Center graduate who served for nearly eight years in the United States Army. Hart enlisted as a wheeled
vehicle mechanic and went on to become a paratrooper.
Brown said, "It is important to memorialize our fallen service men and women. Without them, we would
not know the freedom we possess today. Celebrating Memorial Day this week, it is fitting that the House
has passed this legislation, commemorating a young man from Wood County, Staff Sergeant Hart."
Darlene Hart, Sgt. Hart’s mother, gave testimony on the bill during committee, remarking that her son and
other service members who lay down their lives in service to the country deserve acknowledgment and that
the road signs will make people stop and reflect. She was a guest of Brown in the House Gallery when the
bill was unanimously passed.
House Bill 440 will now go to the Ohio Senate to be considered.
