BGSU buildings evacuated after gas line ruptured

An area on the north
side of the Bowling Green State University campus was evacuated Wednesday after a construction crew struck a
gas line.The incident was reported at 12:18 p.m. on BGSU property in front of 724 E. Leroy Ave. A contractor
had reportedly ruptured a gas line with a backhoe during work on the new Forensic Science Building.The
Bowling Green Fire Division established a safe area of approximately 300 feet around the rupture, and
evacuated the Biology Greenhouse, Technology Building, and the College Park office building with assistance
from BGSU police. The buildings were evacuated around 12:35 p.m.Columbia Gas was contacted and arrived
on-scene at approximately 1:25 p.m. The ruptured line was pinched off and the flow of gas was stopped around
2:17 p.m.Shortly thereafter the evacuated buildings were cleared for entry. The area was opened up about
3:10 p.m.
