BG’s farmers’ market returns today

0

Now in its fifth year, the Downtown Farmers’ Market in Bowling Green opens for the season today at 4 p.m.

Located at 201 S. Main Street in the parking lot provided by Huntington Bank, the market will run every
Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. through Oct. 15.
New this year will be an "Art at the Market" display on the first Wednesday of each month
beginning June 4. The program will showcase local creative talent and will be located on the back lawn
of the market.
Programmed by the Hump Day Revue’s Tim Concannon, the Stones Throw Stage at the Market will host music
every Wednesday from 6 to 7 p.m. A Bowling Green band of ukelelists, the GRUBS, will provide the music
on opening day.
Foodies are encouraged to enter their favorite recipes in the Farm Fresh Recipe Contest, sponsored by the
Melt Shoppe and Heritage Corner Health Care Campus. There are four editions of the contest this year,
with winning entries prepared for sampling at the market by Chef Matt Beck from Heritage Corner Health
Care Campus and featured as specials at the Melt Shoppe.
Vendors and volunteers make the market happen. Many former vendors are returning, including Bella
Cuisine/Sugar & Spice, the English Gardener, Friends of the WC Park District, Gardenview
Farm/Flowers, Roger Zielinski’s Garden Nursery, Grandma Marie’s Jams and Jellies, Great Lakes
Sharpening, Haslinger Orchards, Joseph’s Greenhouse, Newman’s Kettlecorn, New World Holistics, Riehm
Farms, Turkeyfoot Creek Creamery, Willy’s Salsa, and Wood Lane Real Ink. New vendors joining the market
this season include Pop Culture Popcorn & More, Olde Man Granola and Crazy Horse Garlic Farm.

Members of the Bowling Green High School FFA, along with additional individual volunteers, will be
helping with the market today. The BG Kiwanis, Huntington Bank, St. Aloysius School and the students in
Lisa Hanasono’s Service Learning Class at BGSU have also set times to volunteer down the road. Downtown
BG is still looking for volunteers to help with a variety of market dates and welcomes group and
individual inquiries. Contact Downtown BG at 419-354-4332 or by email at [email protected].
