A Bowling Green High School junior was cited over the weekend for driving while intoxicated.
City police cited Maxwell S. Beattie, 17, after he struck a utility pole in the 1000 block of Gustin Avenue, off Haskins Road, around 4 a.m. Sunday.
According to the report, the teen's breath test scored 0.124 for alcohol content; he also was cited for operating a vehicle while impaired, failure to maintain reasonable control, and driving outside of license restrictions.
For drivers age 17, the law prohibits them from driving from 1 to 5 a.m. unless they are accompanied by a parent or guardian.
A passenger in the vehicle was referred to the juvenile prosecutor for possible charges.According to Tim Atkins, who handles juvenile cases for the county, "nothing has been filed yet at the juvenile court" against the passenger, and the case is still being evaluated for possible charges.
BGHS Principal Jeff Dever said this morning that the athletic handbook outlines student athletes, of which Beattie is, are barred from competing for the rest of that season if faced with an alcohol-related offense
Beattie is a junior at the high school. He is scheduled to appear Jan. 20 in juvenile court.
