A Wood County grand jury on Wednesday indicted a Bowling Green man with the rape of a child.
The panel also officially indicted the Jak’s Pharmacy robbery suspect with the charges previously filed
against him.
According to the indictment for rape, Maurice Preston Cord, 25, of Bowling Green, on or about Aug. 9,
2013 did engage in sexual conduct with a 12-year-old.
Cord was 24 at the time of the alleged first-degree felony offense. The grand jury also indicted him with
two counts of importuning and two counts of corrupting another with drugs.
The importuning counts both allege that on March 2, Cord “did recklessly solicit” two additional victims
“to engage in sexual conduct” with him.
The first count is listed as a third-degree felony as the minor was less than 13; while the second count
is a fifth-degree felony listing the victim was 13. The law differentiates criminal offenses depending
on the victim’s age with distinctions made at age 13 and age 16.
Both corrupting accounts are also listed with a March 2 date of offense and allege Cord “by force, threat
or deception, administer to another or induce or cause another to use a controlled substance, to wit:
marijuana.”
Both of those counts are fourth-degree felonies.
Matthew David Stoughton, 26, of Bowling Green, was indicted for aggravated robbery and failure to comply
with an order or signal of a police officer his alleged actions on Monday which began at Jak’s Pharmacy,
located at the Wood County Hospital Medical Building, and ended hours later with Wood County Sheriff’s
Office deputies arresting him following a high-speed chase and subsequent manhunt near Bradner and
Kahler roads.
He is being held on $600,000 bond at the Wood County jail.
The indictment for the robbery charge states that Stoughton, “in attempting or committing a theft offense
… or in fleeing immediately after the attempt … did have a deadly weapon, to wit: .40 caliber
Hi-point Pistol, on or about his person or under his control and either displayed the weapon, brandished
it, indicated that he possessed it or used it.”
The count also carries with it a firearm specification. If convicted of the first-degree felony, he could
be sentenced to up to 10 years in prison, with an additional three years for the firearm specification.

Stoughton’s failure to comply charge is a third-degree offense for his operation of the motor vehicle to
elude or flee the police. The indictment indicates “the offender cause a substantial risk of serious
physical harm to persons or property.”
Both the cases against Cord and Stoughton have been assigned to Wood County Common Pleas Court Judge
Reeve Kelsey.
